HISTORY OF SINGKAWANG

Yuhuuu. Let's see my next entry. My previous entries are about the beautiful places in singkawang, but I don’t tell you about the history of Singkawang yet. So, I will tell you about it but, I’m so sorry if the story is not really complete. But, it is better than if I don’t tell you right?

As all you know, Singkawang is one of the cities in the West Borneo which known as the place for vacation and recreation. According to the Chines people in Singkawang, the name of Singkawang is come from the word that is Sau Kew Jong which the meaning is the city among the sea, river, and mountain. Singkawang is the devition of the Sambas Palace. Because of that, Singkawang was the Capital Regency of Sambas. But in 17 October 2001, Singkawang was dissappear from Sambas and become a new city in West Borneo.

Another thing that very fantastic about Singkawang is the citizens in Singkawang are very heterogen which consist of Chines, Malay and Dayak, so, Singkawang also known as the multy cultural city.
Now, I will tell you the meaning of the beautiful symbol of Singkawang. The beautiful symbol of Singkawang consists of many color and picture which each of them has their own means.



Color means:
  • Red : courageous
  • White : sanctity
  • Green : fertility
  • Blue : tranquility
  • Yellow : Keluhuran dan Keagungan

Pictures means:
  • Star : Ketuhanang Yang Maha Esa
  • Rice and Cotton : Welfare and Prosperity, is the purpose of the whole society Singkawang
  • Chain and Gears : Unity and Unity in the wheel of development
  • Mount : toughness and solidity
  • Sea : insight and broad vision
  • Monuments : historic milestone in the struggle to read Singkawang ribbon
  • "Singkawang" : symbolizing the identity Singkawang
  • Number of Rice and Cotton and Figures 2001 :an inauguration of Establishment Singkawang dated October 17, 2001, which promises Singkawang Day
  • Books : symbolizing Science and Technology as well as legislation
  • The article "United States for Progress " : symbolizing the motto Singkawang

COZY PLACES

Hi…….!!! Friends…. How are you??? Actually I don’t have any idea what will I write in my blog. But, fortunately, I got an idea, which is recommended you about the good places for have breakfast, lunch, dinner or gathering with your friends in the afternoon when you visit Singkawang

VILLA BUKIT MAS
I love this place very much because it’s very beautiful in the afternoon and romantic in the night. It is just about 1km from Gate of Singkawang. You have to straight ahead, and then you have to turn right when you see the gate which has written Gold Hill Villa. In this place you not only eat, but also you can swim and check in because there are two swimming pool and some rooms for the guest who want to stay in there.
In the top of building and in the middle there is a place where visitors can take a rest or have lunch or dinner. But, it will be so romantic if you have dinner with someone special. The cost of the foods is not expensive. Why I have said like that? You not only eat but also you can see the beautiful scenery of Singkawang at the same time.

PANGERAN CAFE
Strangest. It will available in your mind if you read this part. But, this place is so cozy and cool. This is one of the favorite places for the younger gathering in the afternoon. It will be more crowded on Saturday Night. Moreover, you can sing a song or connect to internet… And the most important thing is the costs of the foods are cheap. Hhhmmmmmmm ,,,, This place so cool right. So, don’t miss it if you come to Singkawang.

Dharma Bumi Raya Buddhist Monastery

Okay friends, I will continue to tell you the great place in Singkawang. May be this place is one of the religious places in Singkawang and also has a big history. All the people in Singkawang were really familiar in that building. This building has special architechture and most of the colour is re and adornment is dragon.
The name of that building is Dharma Bumi Raya Buddhist Monastery where in the middle of Singkawang which is believed that it is home of Dewa Bumi Raya who protects Singkawang. This monastery was build in the 1933.
In the past, in the behind of this monastery, there are a sanggar kuda which every people who do live in Singkawang which want to buying somthing in Singkawang to place their horse.But in the 1939 this monastery was burn. Luckily all of the statue can be save by Aheng’s parent, the owner of Aheng Restaurant.
After that accident, all the citizen cooperated to collect some money to reconstruct this building. But it was not have the agreement from the President of Dutch. But, at night, the wife of the President dreamed that The God of Bumi Raya come to her and asked to give the permission for reconstructed the building. And the next day, the president gave the permission for the citizen to reconstruct the building. Finally, in the 6th month of 6th year of is the birthday of the god Bumi Raya.
Now, most of tourists who come to Singkawang always visit this place. Some of them want to know about that story or just take some photographs. So, don’t forget to come to this place when you come to Singkawang. Trust me…………
